The Northridge Meadows earthquake, also known as the 1994 Northridge earthquake, was a seismic event that struck Southern California on January 17, 1994. With a magnitude of 6.7, it caused significant damage to infrastructure, homes, and communities. One of the most tragic consequences of the earthquake was the collapse of the Northridge Meadows apartment complex in the San Fernando Valley.
The Northridge Meadows apartment complex, located in Reseda, experienced a catastrophic failure during the earthquake. The upper floors of the three-story building collapsed onto the first floor, resulting in the loss of 16 lives and numerous injuries. This tragic event highlighted the vulnerabilities of older buildings and the need for more stringent building codes and retrofitting measures.
In the aftermath of the earthquake, a comprehensive rebuilding project was initiated to address the widespread damage across the affected areas, with a particular focus on improving seismic resilience. And this is when Structure Home came to be – just two years later – we incorporated on January 22, 1996.
