With 2021 coming to an end, let’s revisit the proclaimed Pantone color(s) of the year before they announce next years winners.
Pantone’s color of the year choice isn’t always well received. And the 2021 Color of the Year was no different – although this time they announced two colors.
Pantone has only done dual colors once before in the last ten years.
For 2021, they’ve named the Color(s) of the Year as “Illuminating” and “Ultimate Grey”, with an intended message from Pantone that they are meant to offer both hopefulness and strength, uplifting and enduring. And so perhaps with that reasoning given what we all went through in 2020, these colors are indeed our colors of the year.
The “Illuminating” color is that of yellow, meant to be similar to that of a lemon skin.
And yellows do certainly add a splash of bright, cheery color to any room decorated in neutrals (like grey).
Have grey walls? Pop in an armchair, a few patterned cushions, or artwork for the wall in yellow. And you can vary the shade of the accent color too, which may be helpful when decorating with such a bright color as yellow.
Go bolder and paint a single wall yellow, or a full door. Just don’t go overboard with too many yellow accents.
The addition of yellow to neutrals like “Ultimate Grey” can also be more subdued, like the pictures below.
What do you think this years Pantone Color of the Year will be?
